The Armory
South Bend, IN
From its historical beginnings as a stoic munitions depot, The Armory experienced a beautiful transformation to showcase a sophisticated ballroom, classy built-in bar and impressive commercial kitchen.
Original elements of the 1928 Armory construction and subsequent Newman Recreation Center were incorporated into the event space renovation to provide the perfect blend of past and present. Iron-barred doors used to secure armaments and thick concrete walls reinforced with brick to accommodate the National Guard Armory and Shooting Range lend a rustic industrial aesthetic. Wood from the recreation center bleachers line the dramatic bar and the original hardwood basketball floor was dressed up to grace the ballroom. The vaulted timber ceilings and exposed truss work allow the dazzling period chandeliers an opportunity to lend an air of elegance to the urban décor. Charm abounds in the union of classic architecture with a modern flair.
